A Simple Guide for Ricoh Camera Photo Recovery

Ricoh’s digital image solutions have become world-famous over the last few decades. Its high-quality digital cameras are used by thousands of photographers.

The GR 16.2 MP camera, for example, is equipped with the advanced GR ENGINE V imaging engine that offers high-sensitivity shooting with minimal noise.

That being said, losing data on a Ricoh device can be an unpleasant experience — sometimes scaring. Here is a question we recently received from a reader:

I have been using my CX6 for a while and have taken about 300 pictures. With the passage of time, the free disk space in the attached SDHC is becoming limited. So I decided to delete some less-than-great images. What happened? I accidentally removed several of my best shots. Ahhhh! Back home, I checked the camera manually but couldn’t find any information about how to recover deleted images. My Ricoh camera comes with an SDHC card. Any ideas on how to get them back? Thanks in advance! – Rocky, Photographer with a Ricoh CX6

Rocky is definitely not the only person who’s suffered from this situation or one similar. In fact, a few years back I formatted my SD card only to find that 1GB of pics were gone.

Fortunately, I got most of the pics back (though not ALL of them because I used the card even after I realized I made the mistake).

Today, I’d like to share with you the steps you’ll need to take to recover missing photos.

Note: the guide can be applied to recover lost pictures from almost all Ricoh digital cameras including the GR, CX, PX, and GXR series and current Ricoh Caplio series, as long as an external memory card is used for image storage.

Let’s get started.

First Things First!

Stop using the memory card with your deleted photos – you should not take pictures or record any videos with your camera.

Why? Because every new image (or any kind of file) you add to the card is likely to overwrite the data contained your previously removed photos.

Once overwritten, the items you want to reclaim are gone forever – meaning they become totally unrecoverable.

How to Recover Ricoh Memory Card Photos – A Quick Guide

Follow the steps below. Be sure to get your card, computer, and connection device (e.g. USB cable, card adapter) ready.

Step 1: Connect your Ricoh memory card to a computer (running Windows or macOS operating system). Make sure your computer can detect the card.

Step 2: Get Stellar Photo Recovery and install the program on your PC or Mac.

Step 3: Launch the recovery software. Click the “Recover Photo, Audio & Video” button located in the center and continue.

(screenshot of the PC version, Mac version looks slightly different)

Step 4: Follow the instructions and scan the Ricoh card for your lost images. Preview them before choosing to recover.

Done. You’re all set! Note: if this program didn’t work, see our photo recovery software post for more options.

Final Words

Recovering images that you’ve mistakenly deleted from a Ricoh camera memory card can be relatively easy, though unfortunately the results are not 100% assured due to the nature of photo recovery. So long as you act as quickly as possible, follow the steps, most likely you’ll see your lost photographs again.
