Best GoPro Bike Mount

Bike mounts let you use your GoPro while traveling at high speeds across different trails. However, picking the best GoPro bike mount is more difficult than it looks since there are so many different options.

Hi, my name is Larry. I’m an avid GoPro filmer who’s been recording my bike rides for nearly 10 years. Throughout this past decade, I’ve used dozens of different GoPro bike mounts.

In today’s comprehensive review guide, I’ll share my top 5 best GoPro bike mounts based on my own experiences. I’ll also summarize my key takeaways, answer some related questions, and explain what factors you should look for while choosing a GoPro bike mount.

Let’s get right into it!

Key Takeaways

  • You can use a handlebar mount, chest mount, head mount, wrist mount, or seat post mount to record your bike rides.
  • My favorite GoPro bike mounting positions are on my helmet or chest because of the first-person perspective they offer.
  • The GoPro Performance Chest Mount is the best overall GoPro bike mount.
  • You should consider getting a few different GoPro bike mounts to record interesting viewing angles for your video.

There are several places you can mount a GoPro on a bike. However, the most popular position is on your handlebars. This mounting position offers a close-up view of the trail in front of you. Furthermore, it’s hands-free, so it won’t cause any discomfort or inconvenience when peddling at fast speeds. You can also mount your GoPro to your seat mount or bike poles.

You can mount your GoPro to your bike’s seatpost using a seatpost mount. This mount comes in a cylinder shape, so you can easily wrap it around your seatpost and tighten it for stability. However, seatpost mounts can also be used as handlebar mounts if you want to switch up the viewing angle for a more interesting biking montage.

I recommend putting your GoPro on the front of your helmet. Although you can put it at the top or side of your helmet, the front position offers the best comfort and viewing angle. The viewing angle is essential at eye level, and you will face less wind drag than if you mount the GoPro at the top of your bike helmet.

GoPro helmet mounts use a heavy-duty adhesive sticker to attach to a helmet. Therefore, GoPro adhesive mounts can only be used once. This is because you won’t be able to use it if you take it off. For this reason, it’s important to find the best mounting position before you place the actual mount on your helmet.

What Makes the Best GoPro Bike Mount

It’s crucial to discuss what factors make the best GoPro bike mount. Since there are so many options, knowing what to look for will help you differentiate each bike mount. Each biker has different preferences and needs, so the best GoPro bike mount for one individual might not be the same for another.

So, let’s take a closer look at the three factors you must consider when selecting your next GoPro bike mount.

Handlebar Compatibility

Always consider the size of your handlebars when searching for mounts that clamp on them. If the handlebars are large, it is possible that the mount will not be big enough to clamp down in a way that keeps the camera steady.

Mounting Mechanism

Some mounts have a screw system, some are clamps, and some are a combination of the two. You have to decide which mounting mechanism will work the best for your bicycle, as they all work well in different situations.

Build Quality

You don’t want to buy a bicycle mount only for it to fall to pieces when you clamp it down on your bike. Buying a good quality mount will ensure it is made of better materials than some cheap knockoff. If the price is too good to be true, the quality is probably where the item takes the biggest hit.

Always prioritize build quality first, as a cheap mount will likely break at one point or another. The mounting mechanism and clamp diameter both depend on what type of bike you have and where you like to ride.

Top 5 Best GoPro Bike Mounts

Now, it’s time to jump into my list of the top recommendations. I narrowed down a list of over 50 options to give you the best of the best. Therefore, these are the only GoPro mounts you should consider for biking if you don’t already own any GoPro bike mounts.

Here are the top 5!

1. GoPro Performance Chest Mount (Best Overall)

  • Mounting Position: Chest
  • Viewing Angle: First-person point of view
  • Weight: 5 ounces

The GoPro Performance Chest Mount is arguable the best GoPro bike mount. This is because it keeps your camera out of the way while providing a comfortable hands-free mounting position. In terms of comfort, wearing the GoPro Performance Chest Mount feels like wearing a lightweight and compact backpack.

This mount is one-size-fits-all and adjustable for most body sizes. Furthermore, this mount captures a near-perfect first-person perspective of your bike rides. Although it’s placed a bit lower than eye level, the chest mount offers an immersive view of your exhilarating rides.

In addition, this mount is made with padded and breathable materials. This provides maximum comfort for extended bike rides and recording sessions. The breathable materials also dry quickly if drenched in sweat, water, or rain.

This mount also has a quick-release buckle that lets you put it on and take it off very quickly. In essence, the GoPro Performance Chest Mount offers a comfortable and stable video platform for GoPro cameras. However, the viewing angle might be lower than what some people prefer. For this reason, I recommend a helmet mount if you want a higher viewing angle.

Furthermore, although it’s relatively more expensive than other chest mounts made by third-party manufacturers, the GoPro Performance Chest Mount has better build quality and comfort. It’s also backed by GoPro’s warranty policy.

My Verdict: The GoPro Performance Chest Mount is the best overall GoPro bike mount because it combines an excellent viewing angle with maximum comfort and convenience. I’ve used my chest mount hundreds of times without any discomfort whatsoever.

2. Forevercam Handlebar Mount (Best Handlebar Mount)

  • Mounting Position: Handlebar or seatpost
  • Viewing Angle: Varies
  • Weight: 3.07 ounces

The Forevercam Handlebar Mount is an extremely durable full metal GoPro handlebar mount. This mount is made with aluminum alloy, which provides a lightweight yet durable build. In addition, it features an off-center camera mount with a 360-degree rotatable head.

In addition, it comes with a small wrench to tighten the mechanism once you’ve rotated it to your desired angle. Everything works well together, but it can be difficult to remove due to the tight screws.

This mount can be attached to any round or semi-round tube with a diameter of 0.8 to 1.37 inches. Therefore, you can also use it for your seatpost and other tubes on your bike’s body. Best of all, this mount provides smooth GoPro footage even when biking through rough terrain.

I was skeptical about using this mount for the first time on a rugged bike trail and expected shaky footage. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I played back the footage, which was buttery smooth and crystal clear.

My main criticism of this camera is that the 360-degree swivel doesn’t let you set any position. This is because it has specific stops about 20 to 25 degrees apart. So although you can technically swivel it 360 degrees, it doesn’t offer truly precise viewing angles.

My Verdict: The Forevercam Handlebar Mount is the best budget-friendly GoPro bike mount for bikers who want to record hands-free footage. It offers excellent stability and can record smooth footage in rough terrains.

3. GoPro Helmet Mount (Best Helmet Mount)

  • Mounting Position: Helmet
  • Viewing Angle: First-person point of view
  • Weight: 1.6 ounces

The GoPro Helmet Mount is the best helmet mount for biking because it’s easy to use and provides an excellent point of view. Since you place it on your helmet, the viewing angle is just a little higher than eye level. Therefore, it offers a beautiful vantage point where you can see the entire scenery and terrain ahead of you.

In terms of actually mounting it to your helmet, the GoPro helmet mount uses a heavy-duty adhesive sticker. You can place the mount on any smooth or slightly curved area on your helmet. As I mentioned earlier, I recommend putting it at the front of your helmet for the most comfortable position and best recording angle.

Although I was worried about using a sticker to hold my GoPro on my helmet, this mount has never fallen off while I’m biking. Even in the bumpiest trails and environments, this mount remained stable and secure to my helmet.

However, it’s important to explain that you can only place this mount on one object. Due to the adhesive sticker, removing the mount renders it unusable. Therefore, you won’t be able to use this mount on rented helmets. But, keeping it on your personal helmet is convenient since you can strap in your GoPro at any time.

My Verdict: The GoPro Helmet Mount is a popular option among bikers because it offers a realistic first-person perspective and hands-free mounting position. This is one of my go-to mounts for biking because it lets me record beautiful GoPro videos.

4. PGYTECH Handlebar Mount (Best Premium Handlebar Mount)

  • Mounting Position: Bike handlebar
  • Viewing Angle: Close to the action
  • Weight: 4.8 ounces

The PGYTECH Handlebar Mount is a heavy-duty handlebar mount packed with valuable features. This mount offers quick release, 360-degree rotational adjustment, and a convenient thumbwheel. Therefore, this mount provides one of the easiest ways to record amazing bike videos.

In terms of setup, it takes a few seconds to clamp the mount to your handlebars. It fits any round tube from 0.87 to 1.38 inches. However, you can also attach the mount to reflective mirrors with a diameter ranging from 0.27 to 0.63 inches.

Furthermore, the adjustable ball head lets you rotate your GoPro in any direction. For example, if you come across beautiful scenery on your left-hand side during your bike ride, you can simply rotate your camera to capture the footage.

This mount is built with aluminum alloy and plastic, making it virtually indestructible but incredibly lightweight as well. In comparison to the Forevercam Handlebar Mount, the PGYTECH Mount offers better build quality and stability. Therefore, you should choose this option if you want a more premium GoPro handlebar mount.

On the downside, the PGYTECH is nearly double the price of the Forevercam Handlebar Mount. For this reason, it might not be the best choice for budget-conscious bikers.

My Verdict: The PGYTECH Handlebar Mount offers exceptional quality in a rugged and compact GoPro bike mount. While the mount has a beautiful aesthetic, the mounting clamp works incredibly well to secure your GoPro camera.

5. GoPro Hand + Wrist Strap (Best Versatility)

  • Mounting Position: Wrist
  • Viewing Angle: Flexible
  • Weight: 2.99 ounces

The GoPro Hand + Wrist Strap is worn like a watch around your wrist. Since your hands will be on your handlebars for most of your bike ride, it acts similar to a handlebar mount. However, since it’s attached to your wrist, you can also use it as a selfie stick to record your face or friends. Therefore, this mount offers a lot of recording versatility.

While some bikers find this mount inconvenient, I personally love using this mount for bike rides. It offers a lot of viewing angle creativity, allowing me to make unique and captivating GoPro bike videos. Furthermore, this mount makes it easy to film other bikers since you can simply turn and point the camera in any direction.

In terms of build quality, this mount is made with waterproof materials. For this reason, you don’t need to worry about getting it covered in rain or snow. The 360-degree rotational capabilities let you easily adjust your camera to any position. It’s also one-size-fits-all and a perfect fit for any size adult wrist.

The main criticism I have about the GoPro Hand + Wrist Strap is its relatively high price point compared to other options on today’s list. Furthermore, wearing this mount for extended periods of time can be uncomfortable since your GoPro hangs off your wrist. Nonetheless, this is an incredibly fun GoPro bike mount I highly recommend to all bikers.

My Verdict: The GoPro Hand + Wrist Strap Mount provides infinite recording possibilities for bikers. Although it’s attached to your wrist, it offers a hands-free way to film yourself and your friends during adventurous bike rides.

Final Thoughts

Finding a good mount for a bike can be a tricky proposition. There are a ton of cheaply made ones out there. The five listed above are all of excellent quality and will last you for years to come if properly cared for. I would have no problem strapping my expensive GoPro in any one of these and going for a ride!

I highly recommend the GoPro Performance Chest Mount if you want the best overall GoPro bike mount for everyday rides. This mount is essential to any passionate GoPro user’s accessory kit since it’s useful in most recording situations. However, a handlebar mount is a great option if you want a body-free GoPro bike mount.
