Now it’s time to dive into my list of the top 5 GoPros for motovlogs. I’ve tested over 20 different GoPros while motovlogging and have concluded that the newest GoPro cameras are the best options. This is because they offer better image stabilization, battery life, and video quality compared to older GoPro models.

So, let’s dive into the list!

1. GoPro HERO10 Black (Best Overall)

The GoPro HERO10 Black is GoPro’s newest camera release and the best overall camera for motovlogs. This camera is loaded with the latest GP2 processor, enabling top-notch video quality, image quality, and camera performance. The HERO10 Black is the only GoPro with the new GP2 camera processor.

In essence, the GP2 processor offers better all-around performance on all of the camera’s features. The HERO10 touchscreen is more responsive than previous options, and you can navigate the camera’s settings faster. 

Furthermore, the HERO10 Black is waterproof and comes with a front LCD and rear LCD touchscreen. This camera can record up to 5.3k at 60fps Ultra HD video. You can also use it as a camera to capture 23MP pictures.

However, my favorite feature of this camera is its HyperSmooth 4.0 electronic image stabilization. Once again, this is the only GoPro camera featuring the advanced HyperSmooth 4.0. This built-in image stabilization technology produces buttery smooth footage no matter how bumpy the road is.

The price point is the only drawback and reason you shouldn’t purchase this camera. Since its the newest GoPro camera model, it has a relatively high price point compared to previous HERO cameras. Nonetheless, this camera is worth the investment if you plan to record motovlogs frequently. 

My Verdict: The GoPro HERO10 Black is undoubtedly the best action camera for motovlogging in 2022. This camera’s exclusive technology and processing power provide outstanding video quality and performance. 

2. GoPro HERO9 Black (Runner Up)

• Max Photo Resolution: 20MP
• Electronic Image Stabilization: HyperSmooth 3.0
• Weight: 5.2 ounces or 147 grams

The GoPro HERO9 Black is the second best GoPro for motovlogs because it’s almost as good as the HERO10 Black and notably better than the HERO8 black. Therefore, this is the perfect option if you want a state-of-the-art action camera but don’t want to cough up the price for the HERO10. 

Unlike the HERO10 Black, the HERO9 features HyperSmooth 3.0 and a GP1 processor. Although these are older versions of HyperSmooth 4.0 and GP2, they still outperform nearly every other action camera available. Therefore, the HERO9 Black is more than enough if you want to record premium motovlog footage. 

In terms of footage quality, you can record 5K videos at 30fps and take 20MP pictures with the HERO9 Black. This is incredibly high footage quality, and you likely won’t be recording 5K videos too often since it drains your battery and creates massive file sizes. 

Just like the HERO10 Black, the HERO9 features a larger LCD touchscreen than older GoPro models. It’s also waterproof down to 33 feet or 10 meters. 

The only disadvantage in purchasing this camera is that it doesn’t offer the same performance as the HERO10 Black. However, you will be more than satisfied with your motovlogs with the HERO9 Black. 

My Verdict: The GoPro HERO9 Black is the best runner-up because it’s the second-best GoPro overall. Although it’s not as advanced as the HERO10 Black, it beats nearly every other action camera on the market. 

3. GoPro HERO8 Black (Best Value)

• Weight: 4.4 ounces or 126 grams

The GoPro HERO8 Black has a rugged build and waterproofing capabilities, similar to the first two options above. In addition, this camera delivers 4K video recording at 60fps and 12MP quality pictures. The HERO8 Black also features Hypersmooth 2.0 image stabilization to provide smooth footage during shaky motorcycle rides.

Even though GoPro released this camera in 2019, it’s still one of the top-performing action cameras for motovlogs. Best of all, it’s smaller and more lightweight than the HERO9 or HERO10 Black. Therefore, it’s ultra-portable and comfortable to mount to your head or body. 

The footage is clear, and the colors are dynamic in terms of video quality. This means the motovlogs you record will be lifelike and amazing enough to share with your friends and family. Your viewers will feel as if they are watching you live while you ride your motorcycle!

However, due to the camera’s smaller size, it also has a smaller battery compared to the HERO10 and HERO9 Black. For this reason, it has worse battery life than the other two options. Nonetheless, the HERO8 Black’s battery is still better than batteries on previous GoPro models, so this drawback shouldn’t deter you if you want the best value for your GoPro camera.

My Verdict: The GoPro HERO8 Black is the best bang for your buck because it offers outstanding video performance and image stabilization at a relatively low price point. However, I still recommend investing a bit more for the HERO9 or HERO10 Black if you plan on motovlogging frequently. 

4. GoPro MAX (Best 360° Camera)

The GoPro MAX is the best 360 camera for unique and innovative motovlogs. This camera offers video resolutions up to 5.6K at 30fps, 2x slo-mo at 3K, 1080p live streaming, and much more. Similar to the HERO9 Black, the MAX has the GP1 processor and its own MAX HyperSmooth image stabilization technology. 

This camera features two 180-degree fisheye lenses to record everything around it. Then, the MAX stitches the two hemispherical videos together to create the 360-degree video. Once you finish your motovlog shooting session, you can transfer the footage to your smartphone with GoPro Quik. 

Within GoPro Quik, you can crop, edit, and share your motovlogs. This camera is also unique because it features 6 built-in microphones, more than any other GoPro camera. For this reason, it can provide an incredibly immersive experience by capturing all the road sounds.

The primary drawback of the GoPro MAX is that it has the highest price point out of all the cameras on today’s list. Therefore, you should only get the GoPro MAX if you plan on shooting 360-degree videos.

My Verdict: The GoPro MAX is a unique action camera with 360-degree recording capabilities. If you find 360 videos interesting, I highly recommend giving this camera a shot. However, if you don’t intend to record 360 videos, go for another option on today’s list. 

5. GoPro HERO7 Black (Best Budget)

The GoPro HERO7 Black offers everything you need in a powerful yet budget-friendly GoPro for motovlogging. First of all, it can record Ultra HD 4K videos at 60fps. Furthermore, it features a compact and durable design with excellent build quality.

It also has an LCD touchscreen panel and HyperSmooth 1.0 electronic image stabilization. Furthermore, I only recommend the HERO7 Black and not the HERO7 White or HERO7 Silver. This is because the HERO7 Black is the only option out of the three with live streaming capabilities, HyperSmooth EIS, 8x slo-mo, HDR recording, and 1080p240 video resolution.

In terms of previous generation GoPro cameras, this is the most dated version I recommend getting. However, the HERO7 Black features better footage quality, image quality, audio performance, and mic quality compared to even older GoPro cameras.

So if you need an affordable way to shoot high-quality motovlog footage, you can’t go wrong with the HERO7 Black. However, it’s important to remember that much better options exist in the HERO10 and HERO9 at a slightly higher price point. But if you don’t need advanced camera capabilities, the HERO7 Black is a fantastic choice. 

My Verdict: The GoPro HERO7 Black is the best budget GoPro for motovlogs because it has the lowest price point on today’s list. As the first GoPro featuring HyperSmooth technology, this is the oldest GoPro I recommend if you’re interested in recording stable motovlog footage.
