Choosing the right GoPro mount for jet skiing is vital if you want to record the best footage possible. However, choosing which mount to buy can be challenging since there are so many options.

Hi, my name is Larry. I’m a passionate action sports addict who’s been using GoPro cameras in the water for nearly 10 years. Throughout this past decade, I’ve used dozens of different GoPro mounts while jet skiing.

Therefore, I’m excited to show you my list of the top seven best GoPro mounts for jet skis. I’ll also explain what makes the best GoPro mount for jet skiing and answer a few related questions.

Key Takeaways

  • Camera position and ease of use are two of the most important factors when choosing the best GoPro mount for jet skis.
  • You can choose to mount your GoPro to the jet ski or your own body.
  • The Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp is the best overall GoPro mount for jet skiing.
  • The GoPro Head Strap Mount is the best option if you want to mount the GoPro to your body to record first-person footage.

There are several ways to mount a GoPro to a jet ski. You can use the Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp Mount to attach your GoPro to the jet ski’s handlebars. Furthermore, you can use the GoPro Adhesive Sticky Mount to attach your GoPro to the body of your jet ski.

I love to mount the GoPro to my body whenever I go jet skiing. This allows me to capture a first-person point of view where the jet ski is still in the frame. However, if you mount your GoPro to your handlebars or the body of your jet ski, the jet ski won’t be fully in frame.

There are no laws that prevent you from attaching a GoPro to your helmet. So if you wear a helmet while jet skiing, you can use a helmet mount without any issues. However, since most people don’t wear helmets while jet skiing, this shouldn’t apply to most jet skiers.

You need a 360-degree GoPro camera if you want the floating camera with an invisible stick look. This includes the GoPro MAX and GoPro Fusion. Then, you’ll need to purchase the GoPro Handheld Invisible Selfie Stick.

What Makes the Best GoPro Mount for Jet Ski

There are a few factors to consider when determining what makes the best GoPro mount for jet skis. While you learned earlier about the importance of ease of use and camera position, GoPro compatibility is another important factor.

Here’s a more detailed look at each of these key criteria:

  • Viewing Angle: The viewing angle your GoPro mount offers is the most crucial factor to consider. Since your goal is to record great content, you need a mount that provides your preferred viewing angle. The best viewing angle showcases your jet ski ride in the best way possible.
  • Mounting Position: The mounting position of your GoPro mount indicates where the GoPro goes. You can attach the GoPro to your body, the body of the jet ski, or the handlebars.
  • Ease of Use: I understand how fun jet skiing is. For this reason, you want to spend less time setting up your GoPro mount and more time riding across the water. This means you should find the GoPro mount that offers the best ease of use.
  • GoPro Compatibility: You must also consider whether the GoPro mount is compatible with your camera model. This is because older GoPros don’t have built-in mounting flaps. In this case, you need to purchase protective housing that does offer mounting capabilities.

Top 7 Best GoPro Mounts for Jet Skis

Now it’s time to take a look at my list of recommendations. I’m going to review each item so you get to know its pros and cons and make an informed decision.

1. Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp Mount (Best Overall)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: Handlebars
  • Viewing Angle: In front of jet ski

The Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp Mount is the best overall jet ski mount because it offers flexible viewing angles and a hands-off experience. Furthermore, this mount can stretch pretty far from where it’s attached because of its flexible gooseneck. Recording jet ski footage with it fully extended is a great way to capture footage from the outside looking in.

This mount comes with a jaws flex clamp you can use to mount it to your jet ski’s handlebars. The jaws flex clamp can mount your GoPro on anything that’s 0.2” to 2 inches in diameter. This is my favorite jet ski mount because of how easy it is to attach and detach.

In addition, the sectioned gooseneck is roughly 8 inches long and is very stiff to ensure the mount doesn’t move around while jet skiing. There is also a quick connect base mount molded into the top of the clamp. This makes it easy to attach and detach your GoPro camera to the mount itself.

In terms of downsides, jumping wakes may cause the mount to shift position. Although the gooseneck is sturdy, jumping wakes cause a lot of force. However, there shouldn’t be any issues if you don’t jump your jet ski. Furthermore, it’s easy to readjust the mount’s position if it ever shifts.

My Verdict: The Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp Mount is built with high-quality material, highly affordable, and offers an excellent GoPro recording experience while jet skiing. I love how flexible this mount is due to the gooseneck’s adjustability.

2. GoPro Head Strap Mount (Best Viewing Angle)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: Head
  • Viewing Angle: First-person

The GoPro Head Strap Mount offers the best first-person viewing angle out of all the GoPro mounts on today’s list. It’s an excellent way to show everyone how you see things from your angle as the driver. Furthermore, it can fit over a helmet if you use it for other action sports such as rock climbing or mountain biking.

Compatible with all GoPro cameras, the GoPro Head Strap Mount comes with one head strap, one quick clip, and one thumb screw. Moreover, this mount is comfortable to wear and does not shift around if adjusted correctly. When I use this mount to record, my jet ski videos always come out smooth as butter.

This mount’s fabric is also thick and moisture-wicking. Therefore, it’s an excellent choice for jet skiing as you are prone to get wet and soak your head underwater. The mount also includes rubber texturing to prevent it from slipping, even when traveling at fast speeds.

However, you may need to use the GoPro Quik mobile app when setting up the mount because it’s difficult to see exactly what angle the GoPro is recording.

The only downside to this mount is that it may be inconvenient to wear something on your head while jet skiing. Although it’s not uncomfortable by any means, it may mess up your air. Nonetheless, this shouldn’t be a problem since you’re already playing in the water.

My Verdict: The GoPro Head Strap Mount is one of my favorite jet ski mounts because it offers a first-person viewing angle. I prefer to include the jet ski in my videos, and this mount offers an affordable and easy way to do so.

3. GoPro Performance Chest Mount (Best Comfort)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: Chest
  • Viewing Angle: First-person

The GoPro Performance Chest Mount is the best GoPro mount for jet skiers who prefer comfort and a first-person viewing angle. Since the GoPro Head Strap Mount can be uncomfortable for some jet skiers, the GoPro Performance Chest Mount acts as an alternative that records a similar camera angle.

This mount is lightweight and uses flexible construction to bring a balance of comfort and performance. Furthermore, the mount is made with padded and breathable materials that dry if quickly if you soak your body in the water.

The chest mount is also fully adjustable to fit over a wide range of body types. Therefore, children and adults can all use this mount with no issues whatsoever. It also includes a quick-release buckle that lets you get in and out easily. You receive a 1-year warranty from GoPro as well.

It’s so comfy that I often forget I’m wearing it while I’m on the water. The material is much higher quality than similar mounts made by third-party manufacturers. Since GoPro itself makes the mount, you can expect a high-quality and durable product.

However, this mount is one of the most expensive options on today’s list. Although it’s not outrageously expensive, I believe the investment is well worth it because it offers an excellent way of recording comfortable hands-free footage while jet skiing.

My Verdict: The GoPro Performance Chest Mount is an unbelievably valuable mount for jet skiers. In fact, I recommend all jet skiers have a chest mount in their GoPro accessory collection because it offers the best viewing angle for most action sports, especially jet skiing.

4. GoPro Handlebar Mount (Best Handlebar Mount)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: Handlebar
  • Viewing Angle: In front of jet ski

The GoPro Handlebar Mount is another great handlebar mount you can use to record hands-free jet ski footage. Since the handlebar is one of the most secure places to mount your GoPro, this mount offers excellent reliability and performance capabilities.

This mount takes only seconds to set up and can clamp to any 0.35” to 1.4” jet ski handlebar. Furthermore, the rotating base features 360-degree rotation with 16 secure positions. This ensures the perfect viewing and allows quick changes in perspective for more dynamic videos.

The GoPro Handlebar Mount also features a mounting buckle that lets users move their GoPro between mounts on the fly, enabling easy and fast changes. It’s also built with durable construction to prevent slippage while reducing camera shake and vibrations.

However, the primary downside is that it doesn’t include the gooseneck we saw earlier on the Sametop Jaws Flex Clamp Mount. Therefore, the GoPro Handlebar Mount offers fewer viewing angles and positioning. Nonetheless, this mount does offer great value because of the clamp’s 360-degree rotating capabilities.

My Verdict: The GoPro Handlebar Mount is an outstanding choice for jet skiers that want a quick and easy way to attach their GoPro to their jet ski. My favorite feature of this mount is how high quality the build is. You can feel the sturdiness and craftsmanship while it’s in your hands.

5. GoPro Suction Cup Mount (Best Suction Mount)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: The body of the jet ski
  • Viewing Angle: Flexible

The GoPro Suction Cup Mount is manufactured by GoPro itself and offers an easy way to mount your GoPro to the body of your jet ski. In addition, this mount is lightweight, small, and relatively inexpensive.

Let me start by saying the GoPro Suction Cup Mount is a must-have if you plan to make a highly produced jet ski video. This is because it adds multiple viewing angles you can use to vary your footage.

It mounts to anything surface of your jet ski that’s flat and smooth. Therefore, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding multiple locations on your jet ski to use this mount. It also offers vibration control to reduce camera shake and vibrations while cruising over the waves.

In fact, I’ve never had this mount fall off while performing any activity, jet skiing included. Even when I’m riding my motorbike at extremely quick speeds, this mount has never failed me.

You can attach the mount to your jet ski by first making sure the locking mechanism is unlocked. Then, press the suction cup to a flat surface on your jet ski. Next, press the center button to release any extra air and create a tight suction. Lastly, lock it into place using the locking mechanism, and you’re good to go!

However, make sure to clean the area with fresh water before attaching the GoPro Suction Cup Mount. It’s nearly impossible to unmount once suctioned. Furthermore, the mount offers an industrial strength suction cup proven at speeds of over 150 miles per hour.

In terms of the downside, saltwater may slightly corrode the metal base of the clamp after repeated use. Nonetheless, this doesn’t affect the ability of the mount to keep your GoPro safe and to produce excellent footage.

My Verdict: The GoPro Suction Cup Mount is an excellent option if you want to mount your GoPro to the body of your jet ski. You can use this as an alternative to a handlebar mount.

6. GoPro Adhesive Sticky Mount (Best Adhesive Mount)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: The body of the jet ski
  • Viewing Angle: Flexible

The GoPro Adhesive Sticky Mount is a popular mount among the GoPro community. In essence, it’s a tiny and lightweight mount with a strong adhesive bottom you can use to attach to the jet ski’s body. They take up very little space, and you can peel them off at any time.

This mounting set comes with three flat mounts and three curved mounts. Therefore, you can add multiple different viewing angles to create a dynamic jet ski video. Keep in mind that you can’t adjust the viewing angle once it’s attached to your jet ski.

As such, I recommend spending a few minutes beforehand finding your preferred viewing angle before committing to the attachment. Furthermore, make sure the adhesive has full contact with your attachment point. While this seems obvious, this is the only way to ensure your mount won’t fly off when traveling at fast speeds.

However, there are a few major downsides to be aware of. First, once you remove the adhesive sticker mount from your jet ski, you can’t use it again. Therefore, you shouldn’t purchase this mount if you plan on renting jet skis since you’ll only be able to use it one time. Fortunately, many rentals already have sticky adhesive mounts available.

My Verdict: The GoPro Adhesive Sticky Mount is an excellent jet ski mount if you have your own jet ski and want to add a mount to your jet ski’s body. The adhesive power is very strong, and you shouldn’t have any issues securing the mount to your jet ski.

7. The Handler Floating Hand Grip (Best Handheld Mount)

  • GoPro Compatibility: Compatible with all GoPro cameras
  • Mounting Position: Hand
  • Viewing Angle: First-person

The Handler Floating Hand Grip offers a great way of getting videos of your own face or your friends while jet skiing. However, since it isn’t actually mounted anywhere to your body or jet ski, we saved The Handler for last. Instead, you’ll need to hold it in one hand, which shouldn’t be an issue unless you travel at rapid speeds.

This GoPro mount is outstanding because if you accidentally drop it, it floats directly to the top of the water. Then, you can easily spot the bright orange section on the bottom of the handle. Using a floatable hand mount is essential since you don’t want your GoPro drifting to the bottom of the water.

However, you can tie the included wrist strap around your wrist to prevent all possibility of your GoPro falling into the water. Furthermore, I frequently use this mount while scuba diving and snorkeling.

In addition, The Handler features a quick release base. This means you can easily attach and detach your GoPro if you want to switch between mounts. It also offers a comfortable, non-slip grip for easy handling and support.

The primary disadvantage of this mount is its length. Since it’s only 9.5 inches long, you may want a longer selfie stick to film more dynamic footage. If this is the case, I recommend the SANDMARC Pole, which extends from 17 to 40 inches.

My Verdict: The Handler is an outstanding hand mount to have in your GoPro accessory collection if you enjoy recording your water sports adventures.

Final Thoughts

The best GoPro mount can drastically boost your jet ski experiences. Not only do they allow you to record beautiful footage to share with your friends and family, but you can also use them to review your footage to see how you can improve for future rides.
