7 Best Peephole Cameras

In this article, I cover my picks for the best peephole cameras that you can use to better protect your home.

I have a deep knowledge of both cameras and general electronics. That enabled me to take a deep dive into various peephole models by analyzing their functionality, studying their additional features, and referencing many people who used them first hand.

I consider the Ring Peephole Cam to be the best peephole camera money can buy as a result of its incredible image quality, true app functionality, and streamlined design.

It’s a peephole camera made for the modern user. The wireless connectivity is seamless and works across a ton of different devices. The motion sensitivity is top of the line, as are the night vision and general field of view.

As great as the model is, it’s far from the only excellent way to monitor the space outside your door.

Top Peephole Cameras

Each part of the following section will analyze the best peephole cameras by breaking down the traits that make them useful for certain applications.

1. Ring Peephole Cam

  • Best for: Overall
  • Key Features: HD 1080p video. Allows you to see, hear, and speak to visitors remotely. App compatible. Easy to install and use. Advanced motion detection.
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • Field of View: 155 degrees horizontal, 90 degrees vertical
  • Screen Size: N/A

Ring is one of the premier companies in the at-home camera world, and their Peephole Cam shows why. This sleek model has incredible image quality on top of an ample field of view. The full wireless functionality also means you’re able to use the camera with different devices.

Another large bonus of this model is that it’s easy to both setup and use. Anyone, regardless of their tech knowledge, will be able to use this camera without any issues. It’s even Alex or Echo compatible as well.

The Advanced Motion Detection is another high point here. However, it’s a little too sensitive at times and can cause you to get false alerts. This camera is also a bit more expensive than similar models, but it definitely commands that higher price tag for a good reason.

2. Zerone Peephole Viewer

  • Best for: Daytime
  • Key Features: Enhanced clarity. Hidden design. HD display with TFT color technology. Simple design that’s easy to put together. Durable.
  • Resolution: 720p
  • Field of View: 120 degrees
  • Screen Size: 3.5 inches

If you’re looking for a more unique option, this viewer from Zerone fits the bill. Unlike other cameras, this one completely replaces your peephole. That may seem daunting if you’re not into putting together equipment, but setup is easy and only takes a few minutes.

Additionally, this model comes with a 3.5 inches LCD, TFT color display as well as a simple one button activation. The resolution, while a bit prone to blur, is more than sufficient if you want to monitor who comes to your door. The 120 degree viewing angle helps in that regard too.

This is a good outdoor model. Where some peephole cameras break down quickly or don’t do well in tougher climates, this has a zinc alloy construction that will stand the test of time. It has a hidden design that helps it keep a sleek profile for extra security.

3. Brinno Peephole Camera

  • Best for: Usability
  • Key Features: Hidden design. High-quality, LCD screen. Ample field of view. Lifetime warranty and good customer service. Strong construction. Incredibly easy to put together.
  • Resolution: 480p
  • Field of View: 90 degrees
  • Screen Size: 2.7 inches

Users looking for a true DIY option that won’t cause them a lot of hassle will enjoy this model from Brinno. The camera has a low profile look that’s incredibly easy to both install and use. You just attach it to your peephole. There are no tools and everything gets set up in seconds.

The device comes with a special concealed design, as well as a nearly 3-inch screen, and a 90 degree field of view. That may not be the largest one out there, but it’s more than enough for anyone who wants constant monitoring. Especially considering the six-month battery life.

This model is tough and long-lasting. There’s even a lifetime warranty. The screen is a bit small compared to other peephole cameras and you don’t get motion detection. However, it’s still streamlined and easy to set up for people who want a simple-but-reliable experience.

4. Shrxy 800TVL

  • Best for: Simplicity
  • Key Features: Wi-Fi connectivity and 960p resolution. Infrared lights. Small, out-of-the-way design. Simple to set up and use. Affordable price point.
  • Resolution: 960p
  • Field of View: 175 degrees
  • Screen Size: N/A

The Shryx 800TVL is a modern peephole camera made for people who value a stripped down design. There’s not too much to this device, but it still packs some strong specs. That includes 960p resolution, Wi-Fi integration, and MP4 video capture format.

On top of that, you get an incredibly impressive 175-degree viewing angle that can record or capture anything happening outside your door. The color CCD sensor is impressive too. This also comes in at a lower price point, which is something all users can appreciate.

Of course, as this device doesn’t have a lot to it, you are only getting a few features. The lack of premium traits may be an issue for certain users. If you’re not someone who minds that, or if you want a simple device that you can get going right away, this is worth a long look.

5. BCOM Digital Peephole Viewer

  • Best for: Wireless functionality
  • Key Features: Reliable aluminum alloy construction. Wireless functionality and excellent smartphone integration. Crisp resolution and solid viewing angle.
  • Resolution: 720p
  • Field of View: 120 degrees
  • Screen Size: 5 inch

This digital peephole viewer from BCOM is a durable device thanks to its aluminum alloy construction. That gives it a lot of longevity on top of the impressive 720p camera, 120-degree wide angle lens, and TFT color LCD display. You can see everything with this device.

However, the reason this model makes my list is the excellent wireless options. It connects seamlessly to your router and is fully compatible with any smartphone. Everything feels smooth and there’s even great motion detection that alerts you to movement right away.

The screen is bright and everything is easy to install. There’s also a 30-day standby time and long-lasting battery. The only true downside here is that there are no menu or menu options to increase versatility. What you see is largely what you get.

6. Kamep Wireless Camera

  • Best for: Doorbell
  • Key Features: Bright, crisp audio.
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • Field of View: 166 degrees
  • Screen Size: N/A

While not technically a peephole camera, this model still manages to make my list because it gives you a crystal clear view of what lies beyond your front door. The doorbell camera offers excellent security through its 166-degree lens and impressive 1080p image quality.

Everything is easy to install (you’ll be set up in five minutes), and the battery charges up in no time. On top of that, it comes with a sensitive motion detection system that will alert you if anyone or anything comes to your front door. With full app integration, you can check it from anywhere.

If there’s one con to this device it’s the wireless connectivity can be spotty with certain routers. However, that’s one minor complaint in what is a truly reliable device. If you want to branch away from traditional peephole models, this is the best way to go.

7. Digitharbor Peephole Viewer

  • Best for: Affordability
  • Key Features: Simple setup. 3.5-inch screen is crisp and clear in different lightings. Night vision with 2pcs IR-LED lights. Budget-friendly.
  • Sensor: 300,000 pixel CMOS lens
  • Field of View: 120 degrees
  • Screen Size: 3.5 inches

If budget is a big concern, this viewer from Digitharbor will provide you excellent door security without costing an arm and a leg. The small, easy-to-operate device perfectly blends usability with convenience in a way that all users will enjoy.

This also gets high marks for the loop storage that lets you keep up to 75 photos. It doesn’t take a lot of energy, another nod to the money-saving design, and charges up quickly. To complement that, there is a 120-degree field of view and sleek 3.5 inch panel.

When you’re going after a more affordable device, you often have to make some sacrifices. Here, the night vision isn’t the best. It’s functional, but you might lose things in the gloom here and there. The general resolution could be better too, but it’s still a steal.

How to Choose the Best Peephole Camera

Each of these characteristics is important to keep in mind when searching for the best peephole camera for your life.

Resolution

As with any camera, you want your peephole model to have great image quality. There are many on the market, and they each differ in resolution. You want something that delivers 1080p when possible, but you can go lower based on budget. HD video is extremely important as well.

Something else to keep in mind is a wide dynamic range, which will help if you struggle with bright backgrounds. There’s no point in getting a peephole camera that doesn’t give you crisp footage in all types of light.

Field of View

Beyond resolution, you also need a good field of view. If you have a camera that only zooms in on one area or object, it won’t do you much good. You want to be able to see everything that’s outside your door.

Your baseline should be a 90-degree field of view. That will enable you to see everything that’s directly in front of your camera as well as a little bit of what’s on the sides. If your goal is to see everything in front and on the sides, get 180. The bigger your field, the better off you’ll be.

Night Vision and Motion Detection

Your peephole camera won’t do you much good if it can only see during the day. You also need it to be ready at night. As such, get a model that does a good job when the lights get low through upgrades like infrared LEDs or other such lights to pierce the darkness.

In that same vein, motion sensitivity is incredibly important. Being able to know when someone or something approaches your door is a big bonus when it comes to enhanced security. Ones with adjustable sensitivity are good purchases too.

Functionality

Every peephole camera comes with plenty of features, but you want something that goes above and beyond. One of the ways to do that is through ample cloud storage. That will enable you to store hours of footage just in case you need to record a break-in or other event.

On top of that, look for app support when possible. Everything about a modern peephole camera should be geared towards usability. If you’re able to control it or get updates directly from your phone, it’s going to make the experience much more pleasant.

My Verdict

Nothing on this list can quite match the Ring Peephole Cam. The device has a ton of functionality and versatility due to how well it works with different devices like your phone and Alexa, and the night mode is incredibly useful.

On top of that, it shoots in full HD 1080p video that looks great at all times of the day. Those who aren’t fully versed in the tech world will have no issues with setup or usability. A great pick for people who need the absolute best when keeping an eye on their door.
