How to Recover Pictures from a Lexar SD Card

Have you ever accidentally deleted those perfect shots off your Lexar SD card? We know, the urge to make room on your card — but without realizing that you may delete the wrong photos by mistake. Those photos are irreplaceable, it can be upsetting to lose them.

If this has ever happened to you, don’t panic. We are going to share a step-by-step solution on how to undelete erased files, whether they are photos or videos, on your Lexar memory card.

Note that there is no such thing as an “undelete” function on most modern digital cameras. That being said, you’ll have to rely on another solution to get the job done. In this tutorial, we use SD card recovery software.

What You’ll Need

Depending on the type of camera and flash memory card you use, the tools you’ll need to get back the deleted photos may be slightly different.

In general, these are the three main things you will need:

  • Your Lexar memory card. All of your data (photos, videos, etc) is stored on the card instead of the camera. Make sure the card is in good shape.
  • A Windows or Mac computer. The undelete software is key to successfully recovering your images, and it must be run on a computer.
  • A connecting device between your Lexar card and computer. This can be a USB cable that came with your camera or a card reader.

Lexar Photo Recovery Guide (Step-by-Step)

Follow the steps and tips below to increase your chances of recovering lost data.

Important note: Once you realize that your photos are missing, stop using your Lexar card immediately! Turn off the camera, remove the memory card, and place it in a safe place until you begin the file recovery process.

Step 1: Connect your memory card to your computer via a USB cable or memory card reader.

With a cable, remember to place the memory card in your camera, turn on the camera, and to keep the card inside for the rest of the process. If you use a card reader, insert the card in the appropriate slot, and plug the reader into a USB port on your computer.

Step 2: Install recovery software.

Download Stellar Photo Recovery and install it on your computer — make sure to download the appropriate version. The program can be run on a PC or a Mac.

Step 3: Start your recovery.

Launch the program you have just installed. Click the “Recover Photo, Audio & Video” button that is highlighted in blue.

Step 4a: Select drive and scan.

The software will prompt you to select the drive you want to scan. This will be the memory card drive you are restoring photos from. Next, click the “Scan Now” in the bottom right corner. If you want to specify file formats to scan, you can use the advanced scan option that is above the “Scan Now” tab.

Step 4b: Select file format.

Select the file type you wish to recover via the “File List” tab. Do this by clicking the checkbox next to the file type you wish to select. Note: this step will speed up the scanning process.

Step 5: Begin the scan.

Now the application will scan your memory card for recoverable files. Depending on your camera’s speed and card volume, this may take a few minutes. You can watch the scanning progress on the status bar.

Step 6: Preview deleted files.

Once the scan is complete, select the files that the software has found by clicking the box next to them!

Step 7: Recover & save your files.

Select all the files you wish to recover and click the “Recover” button at the bottom right corner. The program will prompt you to choose a destination to save the recovered items. Once the saving process is complete, you can then access the “lost” photos!

Voila! Your photos have been successfully “undeleted”.

I hope that you found this Lexar card recovery tutorial helpful. Accidentally deleting precious photos can be rather distressing and stressful. Luckily, it’s not that hard to recover the precious moments stored in your photos.
